The greatest love story of World War Two was the creation of the relationship between the Dutch people and the Canadian soldiers. This relationship came about when the Allies played a key role in liberating the Netherlands. With perseverance, hard work and determination the battle “Liberation of the Netherlands” was a huge success for our Canadian soldiers. This video includes Dutch survivors of the battle expressing their gratitude and appreciation for our contribution to the battle.  Throughout the interview, many of the Dutch express their thankfulness for our actions during the war. But the mission they recall the best were the "food bombs" dropped down to the Netherlands. Our Canadian troops supplied the Dutch with food, during the time of starvation in the Netherlands. They also talk upon their reaction to our actions. Many of the Dutch during the time of our food bombs would write “Thank You!” on their roofs. Also, they express their personal experiences as a child during this battle. Many of them describe their experience as “spontaneous” because they never knew what was going to happen next. For them, they were not informed of much and were just pushed into many different situations. By the end of the way, they express the atmosphere as “"Invitations to street dance, a love that you can't explain, a welcome, warmth everlasting." Our Canadian soldiers were heroes in the eyes of a Netherland citizen. The people of the Netherlands till this day still send tulip bulbs to Canada every year in thanks for our actions in the Battle of the Netherlands.
